January 3rd Meeting

Rotarian Mike Cushing introduced the speaker Scott Clinch, Director of Facilities and Operations for Ottawa Township High School. Clinch gave a very detailed explanation of the Levee Project which actually began in 2009 and was just completed.  Through pictures and data Clinch explained how the original levee of 1999 was decertified in 2009 which prompted an intense feasibility study.  The flooding of 2013 moved so quickly that a newly engineered sand bag system had to be installed within hours of the notification to prevent damage.  The project now protects the school building and grounds and many east side dwellings.  By partnering with the city for the grant the levee is now complete.

President Kyle Dooley wished everyone a Happy New Year.  Sergeants at Arms Keith and Jane Goetz collected the fines and provided questions on technology.  The winning number of Gene Anderson was drawn for the weekly buck in the pot.levee
